Biography
I am currently a Ph.D. student in Computer Science and Engineering at the University at Buffalo, SUNY. I am very fortunate to be advised by Prof. Junsong Yuan and to work closely with Prof. Nan Xi.
I spent several wonderful years at ETH Zürich, where I received my M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology in January 2025, with a focus on Signal Processing and Machine Learning. During my master’s studies at ETH, I was advised by Prof. Luc Van Gool and had the pleasure of working with Prof. Guolei Sun and Prof. Yawei Li, who were both postdoctoral researchers at ETH at the time. They supervised my master’s thesis together with Prof. Luca Benini. I am deeply grateful to my mentors, colleagues, and friends at ETH for their guidance and encouragement, which made my time in Switzerland both rewarding and enjoyable. The natural beauty and quiet simplicity I found in Switzerland taught me to slow down, observe with care, and find joy in everyday life.
Before that, I completed a joint undergraduate program between Wuhan University and Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1, spending two years in Wuhan and two years in Lyon. I received a B.Sc. in Physics from Wuhan University in July 2021 and a B.Sc. in Electronics, Energy, Electrical Engineering and Automation from Lyon 1 in June 2021. I remain grateful for my formative years at Wuhan University, where my studies in physics shaped the way I approach research. I have fond memories of my studies in Lyon, France, where I was advised by Prof. Karim Bennaceur. Lyon’s rich cultural life and the warmth of everyday encounters broadened my perspective, teaching me to approach people and ideas with curiosity and openness.
My research interests lie in computer vision and deep learning, with a particular focus on action quality assessment (AQA), human motion analysis and generation, and video understanding. I am drawn to the subtle language of human movement and the physical principles that shape it, with a special interest in physics-informed motion generation. My goal is to develop reliable and interpretable models that assess human performance, generate natural, physically plausible motion, and provide meaningful guidance to help people refine their movements and improve their skills.
I welcome research discussions and opportunities to collaborate on these topics. You can reach me at ziqingch@buffalo.edu.
